News 2006
Find out what's going on with Against Nature and Revelation.
12.28.06
During rehearsal this morning, Steve, Bert, and I were speaking of the broad range of bands and music that influenced us for the two songs we are preparing to record, the release we intended to call "Empire Against Art." Someone mentioned our lack of "the anxiety of influence" as a play on our future planned release of the same name. And we immediately thought that "The Anxiety of Influence" fits the release of these two songs much better than our original title of "Empire Against Art" fits. Therefore, we've decided to switch titles: our next release, which we will begin recording on January 13-14, 2007, will be titled "The Anxiety of Influence." The following release, which we will record in Spring 2007, will be titled "Empire Against Art."
12.28.06
Against Nature will play at Krug's Place in Frederick, MD on Feb. 10, 2007. Also, the band will play on April 13, 2007, on the first evening of the Doom or Be Doomed Festival here in Baltimore, at The Sidebar, and organized and hosted by John Brenner and Josh Hart.
The release of "Leer" on CD is now postponed until we raise enough money to press the discs. The release will remain available for free download on this website, however.
We are almost finished rehearsals for our next release "Empire Against Art," which should be available for free download early in 2007.

Because of the high volume of spam messages that come to the account, we have deleted our e-mail address booking@againstnature.us. If you use this address to write to us, I apologize. Please write to blandhandrecords at yahoo dot com from now on. - JB
Against Nature is working with Butch Balich (vocals, ex-Penance, currently of Argus) on a record of original songs. The release will be called "Unfolded" and will contain 7 originals and perhaps a few covers. This release will available for free download on our web site sometime early next year. We hope it's the first of many Against Nature releases featuring Butch's lyrics and vocals.
11.09.06
We have decided to postpone the release of Leer on CD until at least mid-December. The entire record, however, is still available for free download.
10.26.06
The first song of our tribute to Nigro Mantia is now available.
10.23.06
Against Nature's fifth release "Leer" is now available as a free download. We will also release, in an edition of 100 signed copies, a CD of "Leer" in mid-November.

Some malicious person reported all of our Rapidshare links to the Revelation and Against Nature downloads as "abuse," so Rapidshare deleted the files. Accordingly, we will no longer offer the Rapidshare download option for Bland Hand Records releases. All downloads will be available exclusively on this web page. Also, this means the Bland Hand Records blogspot page is useless, and we have deleted it.

Although we had planned to release "The Anxiety of Influence" at the end of 2006 and "Empire Against Art" early in 2007, we have decided to do the opposite. That is, we will release "Empire Against Art" in December 2006 and "The Anxiety of Influence" before March 2007. "Empire Against Art" consists of two long songs, "Lapsarian" and "Falling," each of which is 20-25 minutes long. "The Anxiety of Influence" will be a small departure for us, in that we will draw exclusively upon the music of our formative years (mostly 70s rock bands) for much of our inspiration.

Against Nature will begin recording our tribute to Danish band Nigro Mantia this weekend. We will record one song of their 3-song "Poetry of Subculture" demo at a time and post each song as it is finished. First in line is the song "Death Romance." We hope to finish the project by late September.
Also, our original plan was to release our next recording "Leer" as a CD available for purchase. However, we have now decided to make "Leer" available as a free, Internet-only release. Our final planned recording for the year, "The Anxiety of Influence," we have decided will be available in December on CD. We are already in the planning stages for releases in 2007, including an ambitious, epic project for the early part of the year tentatively titled "Empire Against Art."

Against Nature will record and distribute, for free download, in Fall 2006, a tribute to the Danish band Nigro Mantia, who released their sole recording, the "Poetry of Subculture" demo, in 1984. Henrik Neilsen, Nigro Mantia's bass player, died in 2004, and we are recording the three songs from the demo as a tribute to him and to the band. Nigro Mantia was a huge influence on early Revelation, who used to play a cover of "Death Romance." Listen to the song "Paradox," and you should hear a clear influence. The band influences Against Nature to this day. We will post the link to the dedication page when it is available.
